‘T’ SPACE STUDIO

Fellows’ studio and exhibition space

‘T’ Space Studio is a seven hundred and fifty square feet study of light and volume sited in the 28 acre forest in Rhinebeck, New York. A 1959 hunting shack is transformed by additions of Light Turrets. Turrets — from the Italian torreta (little tower) and the Latin turris — were historically used to provide a protective defense position. Here, where a hunting shack is transformed, light, rather than guns, shoot in. Four cubic skylights thrust upward, two cubic bays thrust outward, and an east facing light catcher forms the entry. The wooden building is sheathed in tar paper with wood battens and has a white painted plywood interior.
